Rainbow Ski Area is situated adjacent to the Nelson Lakes National Park and only 2 hours’ drive from Nelson or Blenheim.

The Ski Area is accessed from State Highway 63 between Blenheim and St Arnaud. In the Alpine village of St Arnaud, 40 minutes from the skiing, there is a range of accommodation from backpackers through to luxury lodges.

Overlooking Nelson Lakes National Park with its extensive beech forest and beautiful Lake Rotoiti, the views from the top of the T-bar are spectacular. The wide, uncrowded slopes and well groomed trails provide superb terrain for beginners, while advanced skiers can challenge themselves in the high powder runs and chutes. Although, it is the intermediate level skiers and boarders who the ski field is well suited for, with majority of the terrain aimed at this level. This is perfect for those looking to improve their technique and gain the confidence required to get to the next level. Rainbow's season usually extends from late June to mid-October and the south to south easterly aspect ensures excellent snow quality throughout the season.

Rainbow Ski Area Tips:

  1. Chains must be carried at all times when entering the mountain access road
  2. There is a shuttle that runs multiple trips daily from the base car park for easy access without the driving effort
  3. There is no crèche and only one café on the mountain so make sure younger riders have plenty of snacks on hand and rest stops throughout the day to keep their energy up and enthusiasm going

Chains must be either fitted or carried by ALL vehicles once past the bottom car park. A shuttle service from the bottom car park is available for those traveling without chains.
