NZ Borders are OPEN for the 2022 Ski Season!

Yes, what you’ve heard is true, after 2 years NZ is OPEN again, woohoo! That means for the first time in 2 years, international travellers will be able to enjoy winter in NZ.

From 11:59pm, Tuesday 12 April, fully vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents will be able to travel to New Zealand by air.

Then from 11.59pm, Sunday 1 May, fully vaccinated travellers from visa-waiver countries, such as the large tourist markets of the UK, US, Japan, Germany, Korea and Singapore, will also be able to travel to New Zealand by air also.

With the New Zealand ski season opening in June, that means NZ is 100% open to vaccinated travellers, with no quarantine requirement.

But, there are still rules, it is not a free for all, notably:

  1. You must meet health requirements, including being fully vaccinated and getting pre-departure tests
  2. If you are eligible to travel to New Zealand but are unvaccinated you must stay in managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) when you arrive.
  3. All travellers must complete the traveller declaration before travelling to New Zealand, unless you are entering managed isolation and quarantine.
  4. You may still need a My Vaccine Pass and if you have had your COVID-19 vaccination overseas, you can apply to the Ministry of Health using the overseas vaccine submission form. However, this is likely to have been relaxed prior to the ski season.
  5. Most travellers must have a negative COVID-19 pre-departure test to enter New Zealand
  6. On arrival you will get a “welcome pack” including two RAT tests, to be taken as instructed on Day 0/1 and Day 5/6.

More information for travellers arriving into New Zealand can be found on the Governments COVID 19 website, https://covid19.govt.nz/international-travel/travel-to-new-zealand/how-to-enter-new-zealand/. In particular, if you self-testing on arrival you need to follow these steps

We’ll do a full update on what to expect this season in the not too distant future.

Safe Travels!
